New York, New York

So it turns out we got busy, Internet is glitchy and that we left New York before we could update ya'll. So I'll write while stuck on the greyhound bus.

Now that we have left, I have to say, New York is nice enough but I think I was expecting to be wowed a little more. I was expecting the buildings to be jaw droppingly big, the streets to be ridiculously crowded and the people to be so sweet you left with diabetes. Turns out it was all kind of big but not BIG... And the majority of  white New Yorkers aren't all that friendly ( read, minor case of the wankers ) but the African Americans are super lovely and don't talk to you like you were dropped on your head at birth then rolled in country bumpkin glue.

We ate really good food during our stay and a favourite was a Mexican place down the road that was having a special on margaritas that night. I enjoyed margaritas so much that I had to line my stomach the next day with a bacon, egg, cheese and waffle stack. I think we would have been about thirty kg heavier leaving if it wasn't for the fact that we were walking at least ten hours a day. We also went to a fancy restaurant and almost ate a raw slab of fish because we didn't want to seem uncultured.. . turns out they forgot to cook it and rescued us just in time. Thank God Alex asked for a better knife as we couldn't cut our raw fish with a butter knife, they then plied us with free food to make up for it which was nice since we were expecting to be mocked for being unable to cut our own food.

In true emma form I managed to walk close to twenty km in my jandals the first day and I think I pulled a tendon in my foot. I ended up limping around smelling of tiger balm like a demented hunchback for the rest of our time or wearing my new running shoes in a truly glorious take on sneans ... The quintessential jeans and sneaker combo. No wonder people kept thinking Alex was the graphic designer "because he dresses so trendy".  He really did fit in with all the NYC swagger, that's my fashionista husband for you. That man just keeps getting more handsome, lucky me, unlucky ex girl friends!

We (I ) got to shop up a storm, it was amazing, I felt like pretty woman ( minus the prostitution ) walking down the road with a stack of big paper shopping bags. It's all crammed into my tramping pack now but it was great to pretend I was a fancy New York lady for the day.

It turns out our apartment was in an amazing spot, it was so good being right in the middle of everything, it was a more residential area so it meant we had some of the more local spots around us and less of the touristy prices.

We saw Central Park. It was big and there were squirrels. Time square blows your mind, we went into the m&m store there and all the bright lights and fluro colours leaves you in a Disney induced stupor where you're practically begging people to take your money. We also ate cheese cake in Times Square, it was carrot cake flavour and roughly the size of a large toddler. Totally worth the heart valve coating I'm sure happened and I've never been so proud to not finish something.

On our  last day we  got chased by a drug addict that thought we were Johnny and Cherise... That got a bit scary. Alex did a champion effort and got us out of New York City in our rental car. He did so well, I've only just started driving in Vermont where it is roughly 95% less seizure inducing.  So that brings you up to date on NYC.
